The world has been clamoring, since that fateful night, awaiting the moment when an official confrontation between Jake Starr and David Helms would be put on the books. Many felt it was an inevitable clash of two speeding locomotives, destined to collide in a battle that could be one for the record books. The two had shared a storied past with one another, having spent time together as allies, as members of The Brotherhood, and more importantly, as friends.
When David turned his back on Jake, Jake maintained a cool, calm, and collected front. He knew he had to keep all outward appearances consistent, showing the world that he was not bothered by their defection to the "Dark (Fantasy) Side." He had to make people believe that he was shocked, but was simply moving on. Behind the scenes, however, it was a different story. When Jake and Roeper first sat down together to discuss what happened, the truth came out, and the realism of what had occurred showed through. Jake was beaten up, both mentally and physically, and felt completely betrayed by two men he considered borderline family. He was distraught and blindsided by the event, and he, just like the masses, knew that one day in the very near future, their paths would cross.
That day has officially come over the horizon, and both men are heading right for the impact point.
Since defecting to join their longtime rivals, David Helms has done a lot to try and rid Supreme Championship Wrestling of Jake Starr. He's had Thorn drop Jake with the Grievers Bane, he's believed to have encouraged Howell's continued assaults on Jake, and most notably, David himself struck Jake with a steel chair across the jaw, that landed Jake on the verge of being sidelined with a broken jaw. These were attacks that continued to drive the point home, to Jake, that their backstabbing was truly the reality he feared it was.
And now, he must face the reality, head on, at Gang Rulz!
When the match was announced to the world, Jake immediately knew the time had come. He knew that the moment he, internally, dreaded was upon him. He also knew that the time had come for his wife, the woman who had lived their entire relationship as far as away from the wrestling business as possible, to finally step out into the world she knew nothing about. It is a realization that Jake wasn't completely comfortable with, but realized that he wouldn't have much of a say in it to deter Roeper from accompanying him in this battle. So he has to prepare for the fact that she'll be by his side, in his corner, and watching him succeed or fail closer than she's ever seen it before. He knows she could possibly witness something horrific happen to him, and be powerless to stop it, or could be somehow brought into the match unwillingly. The possibilities are endless, and each more unnerving than the previous, but it's the reality of professional wrestling, and it's the reality that Roeper adamantly states she will be there no matter what!
In Jake's house, his mind has continued to constantly think about everything that has transpired recently. He's spent a lot of time cooped up in his office, constantly trying to think of what all is to come. Today has been no different. He sits in his office, taking a random break from the stress, and tries to simply surf the internet as a bit of mental relief. As he surfs, he hears a knocking at the door of his office. He looks up to see his father standing in the doorway. He gives his dad a "manly" head lift, in a "what's up" fashion.
Jake Starr: Hey Pops! Come on in...
Jeff sees his son on the computer, and immediately worries that he might be interrupting something important.
Jeff Starr: You busy? I don't want to be bothering you...
Jake shakes his head.
Jake Starr: No, not at all. I'm just piddly-shitting around online. I'm trying to clear my mind from everything. I mean, so much has happened lately that I have just been a basket case of emotions.
Jeff walks in and sits down in a chair across from Jake.
Jeff Starr: Yeah... I saw the Ustream video...
Jake immediately feels a sense of shock come over him. The first reason is because he didn't know that his father was well-versed enough in computers to have found live streaming video on the web. The second reason is because he can't figure out how his dad heard about it.
Jake Starr: Did you se it live, or did you hear about it afterward?
Jeff smirks.
Jeff Starr: Oh... Well... I was watching it live on your mom's laptop, out in the entertainment room.
Jake begins to feel even more shocked, but also feels a bit embarrassed at the same time, all because of the fact that his dad saw his impassioned statement. The embarrassment comes from the fact that Jeff has never been a huge fan of Jake's desire to completely attack an organization at the top of their hierarchy, and also try and bring his own personal sense of order.
Jake Starr: So... How did you figure out about that?
Jeff smiles again.
Jeff Starr: I keep up with you on Twitter!
Jake cocks an eyebrow.
Jake Starr: Since when did you know how in the hell to work Twitter?
Jeff immediately begins to laugh, realizing his son is calling him old.
Jeff Starr: Listen, Jake... I may be old, but I'm not completely inept when it comes to using computers.
Jake wastes no time firing back.
Jake Starr: Oh no... You're that inept!
Jeff Starr: I'm not, don't argue with me! I don't do the whole "following" thing on Twitter, like most do. I just sit back and read everything you "tweet" about. Open Twitter accounts are good like that. Now... When I saw you put the link out to all of the people who read your stuff, I wasn't going to waste any time, and jumped on to see what it was all about. I could tell, before you EVER started talking, that you were NOT in the best of moods.
Jake Starr: Heh... Yeah... You can say that again...
Roeper Hart: Jake... I understand all of your frustrations. Times like these are when you have to bare down and try to continue to wade through all of the bullshit, and know that in the end, everything WILL work out like it should.
Jake Starr: Dad... Trust me... I've tried! I have waded through bullshit that was all the way over my fucking head. I have tried my damnedest to play by their stupid rules and desires for about as long as I can fucking stomach. If it wasn't for the fact that I have sat back and been forced to watch so many damn people just skip the line, ahead of me, I would probably not have as big of an issue with things. But because of the fact that I have gone out there, bested these guys, shown the world I'M BETTER, I'm pissed!
I have busted my ass for so long, and gone out there and done EVERYTHING that I have been asked to do, and it's all simply blown up in my face. I just can't continue to play a game that is continually rigged from a different direction each time you turn around.
Jeff Starr: Son, I've been there. It's never easy when things like this begin to happen. But you have to understand that times like these are those moments that truly begin to separate the big boys from the wannabes. You are someone who can truly cement your legacy by continuing to fight, and continuing to try and prove to the world how worthy YOU are for what you claim belongs to you. Throwing in the towel now, or screwing up what has already been accomplished, would make all of that work you put into things for naught. Seriously son... Do you want to feel as if you wasted all of that time and energy?
Jake rolls his eyes.
Jake Starr: Dad, I already feel that way!
Jeff nods.
Jeff Starr: I know, son... Remember, I heard your diatribe. The thing is, though, it's YOUR responsibility to correct that negative emotion. If you let that negative emotion win out, then you WILL have wasted your time. If you go out there, however, and continue to push forward, continue to to be that nagging whisper in their respective ears, that never shuts up, ultimately people will do whatever they have to do, or give you whatever you want, just so you'll stop. YOU have to be the one who outlasts THEM!
Jake sighs.
Jake Starr: I just wish it were that easy, Dad...
Jeff actually smirks toward his son, which Jake doesn't quite know how to comprehend.
Jeff Starr: Well... I may know of a good way to make things a little easier for you to continue the fight!
Jake cocks an eyebrow.
Jake Starr: Ok... And that is?
Jeff simply stands up, and makes his way toward the exit to Jake's office. Jake continues to sit in a state of confusion, wondering exactly where his father is going.
As Jeff reaches the doorway of Jake's office, he peaks his head around the corner, and looks down their hallway. Jake sees him make a waving motion at something or someone. His mind wonders exactly what in the hell his father has up his sleeve. Then, out of the blue, his eyes widen immediately.
Jeff was apparently waving at Roeper, who walks into Jake's office dressed in a tight miniskirt, and a tied-off middrift. On her feet are a pair of black, leather, knee-high, go-go boots. It is a sight that sends Jake's jaw immediately to the floor, and subsequently a sight that makes Jeff realize Jake's mind has definitely shifted.
Jeff Starr: Jake... Let me introduce you to your new valet!
Jake continues to sit speechless.
Jeff Starr: Like I said... I've been doing as much as I can to train Roeper to the best of my abilities, and truthfully about as much as she would like. She wanted to look tough, sexy, and "the part" of the the "modern" valet. Roxie came by to, obviously, provide the assistance with the garb, but the persona, the cockiness, and the swagger, is all courtesy of me!
Roeper has a very cocky and "bitchy" look on her face.
Roeper Hart: You better damn-well believe I'm MORE than ready to kick a little ass, if necessary!
Jake still is in a complete state of shock, and honestly a definite state of arousal. It's a feeling that Jeff easily picks up on, from his son. He decides to play the "embarrassment" card on his son.
Jeff Starr: You know, Roeper, the only way you'll EVER get him talking again is to agree to wear this on a "special occasion" for bedtime, sometime.
The innuendo quickly breaks Jake's silence, as expected.
Jake Starr: DAD!
Jeff laughs.
Jeff Starr: Yeah, I figured that would get your attention!
Jake Starr: I just can't believe that is my wife!
Roeper breaks her "character" and nods.
Roeper Hart: Trust me, I can't believe it either. Hell, the makeup alone takes more time than my entire "morning ritual" normally takes. But Jeff is right... I wasn't going to go out there as Roeper, "The Mom," but I was going out there as Roeper Hart, a pissed off bitch, looking to get even with someone, after being screwed over.
Jake Starr: I'd much rather you be Roeper, "The Naughty Schoolgirl in My Bedroom!"
Roeper throws her hands out to each side.
Roeper Hart: Oh... Great! I look like a whore! I guess back to the drawing board!
Jake chuckles.
Jake Starr: Honey... You look fine. I'd lie, though, if I didn't say it was a MASSIVE turn on for me.
Roeper Hart: Well, I'm glad it turns you on, and I'm glad you approve of the garb, but that wasn't my goal...
Jake Starr: Oh I approve, very much!
Jeff Starr: You think she looks the part, Jake?
Jake nods.
Jake Starr: I definitely think she does. She fits with how most women performers look in today's atmosphere. They're definitely not all "Fabulous Moolah'ed" up like in your day, Dad!
Jeff Starr: I sincerely hope you're simply referring to the fact that they all wore these unflattering onesies, then yes, you're right.
Roeper Hart: I would hope I would NEVER be compared to Moolah!
Jake Starr: Yeah, you're FAR better looking!
Roeper Hart: It's not about looks, babe! Moolah would have killed me! The best I can do is slap a bitch, and yank some hair.
Jake laughs.
Roeper Hart: ... Regardless of what I wear, I am going to be ready for what is on the horizon, and I'm ready to be right there in your corner. I cannot WAIT to see what David will say once I step out there with you.
Jake smirks.
Jake Starr: It doesn't necessarily need to be a surprise. I have a better idea of revealing you to the world for a "pseudo-first time."
With those final words, Roeper simply cocks an eyebrow, and feels a bit confused. Jake, in his mind, figures there may be a better way to break the news that Roeper will be walking out with him, rather than having it be some sort of surprise. What that is, is a mystery, but seeing Roeper getting more and more into the idea of joining him on the road, and on television makes Jake happier and happier.
Going forward, we will see if it will be a good piece of motivation for Jake, or a potential added distraction for the Social Misfit, in his quest to become the best, again.
Jake Starr: As I expected it would, my little "statement" on how I currently viewed Supreme Championship Wrestling sure generated a little bit of buzz, don't you think? I mean, from what I've heard, peoples reactions range from shocked, to appalled, to offended, to worried, to excited. Some people are out there already doing everything they can to get me in trouble, and get me fired for what I said. They felt that I was completely out of line by going out and saying what I said. Hell, I've also even heard the old, timeless, classic, of people saying I should go out there and VEHEMENTLY apologize, and ultimately beg for my job.
Yeah... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but no, that's not happening!
See, when I went out there and I made it clear that things WILL change, or there will be consequences. It wasn't geared toward one person, but toward everyone. It was an impassioned speech that I wanted to be honest and clear about. I wanted to make sure that everyone understood that it was for real. I was NOT going out there and simply blowing smoke, but embracing that mentality with all my heart. I am FULLY to the point where I am willing to make sure NOBODY doubts whether or not I will take this campaign to a point where I bring the world to the brink of destruction.
I'm tired of waiting.
I'm tired of sitting around listening to people come up with a bunch of half-assed excuses, trying to tell me all of these great reasons why someone else is more deserving.
I'm tired of being somewhere OTHER than the FRONT of the line.
So I'm out to be like Obama, and initiate some CHANGE in Supreme Championship Wrestling. I'm done waiting for change, so I'm making it myself. I'm not starting small, either. I'm not starting with some small market match, like Dylan Howell. My plan is to start RIGHT AT THE FUCKING TOP! My plan is to start with David fucking Helms!
Jake snarls. His jaw still has a persistent ache to it, from the shot he took to it, from a chair held by David himself. He raises his hand up, and grasps his jaw with it. As his hand slides down the front of it, and off, his mouth slowly goes agape, and he moves it to each side.
Yeah, it starts right where I figured it would start. And if you ask me, it's the perfect place to begin my fucking mission. And even more importantly than that, it's the perfect place to END DAVID HELMS!
The world saw what happened, that fateful night. The world saw David and Tommy turn their backs on everything they had stood for since the minute he met them. It was a day that I honestly did everything I could to forget about, and move on from. That alone shocked some people. People expected me to sit around and completely be distraught about it. It was a moment that was supposed to make me completely unable to live, or deal with anything. I wasn't supposed to simply blow it off like I did.
But I did do that!
See, when they did that to me, to Greg, and to the fans, I knew that ultimately our paths would cross, and everything would come to a head. Everything would ultimately have that moment where the shit would hit the fan. The moment would come when all of the emotion would be revealed, and have its place in reality. I didn't want to be premature with it. I didn't want that moment to happen, where I let all of the emotion out of me, before I could unleash it on them.
News flash... I CAN NOW!
Jake begins to feel the tension, once again, build in his neck, tightening it up badly. He rubs it with his hand, hoping to loosen it up somewhat, but to no avail.
The truth is, yeah, it stung. It was a stab in the back, the likes I have NEVER had before. It was something that I, honestly, don't know how long it was in the works for. I don't know if it was something they have had in the works for weeks, months, or all along, but we can all tell that it was something they didn't plan overnight. They wanted to shock the world. They wanted to make sure everyone remembered the day that they double-crossed the world, and probably first and foremost, me.
And they succeeded at that.
If it was a memory they wanted to make, then damn, they did it.
What they also did, and I don't think this was one of the intended results, was the fact they pissed me the FUCK off! Yeah... When I saw them dick me over, and more importantly, when they clobbered me with that chair, they made me realize what needed to happen. They made me realize that they truly believed that what they did was, for lack of a better term, "right." I also learned that their primary goal, or at least their first and foremost goal, was to eliminate me. Whether it's something they won't stop until they have achieved it, or whether they'll simply quit once this match has passed, I don't know, but I do know this... At Gang Rulz, I'm kicking his ass, and I'm sending him back to Tommy, begging to be coddled, and told it was a fluke, when they BOTH will know it wasn't.
But let's be honest here... Nobody is going to give me a fucking benefit of the doubt going into Gang Rulz. I honestly can't say as I blame them, either. David and I have faced off in the past, and low and behold, a championships was part of the puzzle. The results of those two battles were basically proof that Jake Starr was on the downslope of the current phase of his career. It was proof that, at that same point, David Helms was on such a huge spike in his career, that no matter what I brought, it wouldn't be enough.
So that's just how it's going to be, right?
History is going to repeat itself, and I'm going to lose my Adrenaline Championship, right?
David and Tommy will prove to be the unstoppable force that The Next Level has proved to always be?
Let me try this, again...
Jake clears his throat, and tries to encapsulate one of the moments from his aforementioned promo.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK NO!
The snarl slowly begins to exit Jake's face. The break from the seriousness actually slowly makes Jake feel a little more at ease with the idea of finally facing off against one of his former best friends.
That's right. I am actually LOVING the fact that the world and the odds are stacked against me. I'm LOVING the fact that I know he'll have to resort to somehow including Tommy into this as well. I want everyone to come into this match and TRY to stop me from doing what needs to be done. I want everyone EVER involved in this little build up to come down to that ring. I want them to come down there so I can stick it to them ALL at once.
And I will!
See, like I said, when David and I faced before, he walked out there, and he took the World Championship from around my waist. I GUARANTEE he will tell you ALL about it, too. I guarantee that he'll toot his horn, and try and make everyone believe that the truth is, I'm scared to lose against him. And honestly, I'm not scared to lose to him.
I'm not scared to lose the Adrenaline Championship to David Helms, and I'll tell you why. The Adrenaline Championship means a lot to me, and truthfully, if I lost it, it would suck, but everything isn't surrounding it. My life isn't going to center around it, like I know David's would. What I mean by that is this... David realizes that he has fallen into that EXACT same funk that I went into, when I couldn't seem to catch any break out there. This migration to teaming with Syren and Ravyn is something that nobody knows a serious answer to, but everyone has their hypothesis about. Personally I find it to be that David needs to feel that he's in the limelight somehow. He had fallen out, and now, he's scratching and clawing at straws, hoping something will get him back up there. That's why the Adrenaline Championship would mean a lot to him. That's why this is his moment, and if he flubs it, he will truly be at that impasse where he has to decide whether or not he has the ability to push forward.
Can he do what I did?
Can he prove that he can climb out of mediocrity, and come back to the level where the world believes he's one of the power players?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK NO!
Jake slowly approaches the camera.
David... You and I have been through a lot over the years, and what you did was a pretty fucked up way of getting my attention, and turning your back on the world. But I don't suspect you feel remotely guilty for it, and in fact, I would beg to say you probably think it was a great thing to do. Unfortunately, you made the biggest mistake in your fucking life, and your piece of shit ego is too stupid to realize it. See, when you crossed me, you made yourself a target for the same annoying, never-ending, battle that your puppet masters have endured since they decided to cross me. They thought that by beating me down, after I embarrassed Lucas, that I would fear them. They thought that they would have beaten me in such a manner that my psyche would be disheveled and broken. Instead, I still linger in their lives. No matter how much they try and get rid of Jake Starr, Jake Starr stays right there!
Now, you're in that "special group."
I know, deep down, you're still pissed that I didn't make a bigger deal of your little defection, than I did. I know you're wishing you could have seen this public display of me begging, pleading, and wishing you'd come back, but you didn't get that. I wasn't going to afford you that luxury. Instead, I brushed you off, much like you did me. I gave you the SAME treatment you gave me. I brushed you off like the spec of dust you have turned into, in my life, and you know what, it feels like a weight off of MY shoulders. For so long, David, I sat around, worrying about if we were cool, or if we were on the "outs." For so long, I felt like we were so close that the fact we weren't in each others presence as much as before, caused me to think I had done something wrong when, let's be serious here, you seemingly were doing it because you wanted the attention.
Well you got it!
You've made me hear you loud and clear!
And now you have to understand that I'm coming at you with EVERYTHING I have!
See man, I know the eyes of the world are squarely on us, and they have been. People have been waiting to see Jake Starr versus David Helms, since the minute you pulled your stunt, and now it's upon us. That moment when we'll clash, and for the first time ever, there will be NO friendship in play. This time won't be like the last. This time won't have similar scenarios to before, outside of the fact you've sucked on Syren's clit again, so much, that it resembles a small penis. Other than that, we're not friends. We're not brothers. We're not allies. We're not ANYTHING of the sorts. It's gone from being about a misunderstanding between us, to a personal beef which YOU started, and I will finish!
Unlike some feuds, David, I don't plan on having this last some exorbitant amount of time. I plan on facing you, BEATING YOU, and moving on to far more important things. For once, you're not in my radar scope, except for Gang Rulz, and I plan on making sure it stays that way. When you beat me the first time, I couldn't let it go without wanting a second go at you. You took the World Heavyweight Championship from me, and I wanted a chance to get it back, just like any champion would. Now, the roles are very similar, but I realize what all I have to lose. I don't sit here thinking I'm unstoppable. I realize just how beatable I am, especially by you. I also realize you come in with a lot of malice in your heart, ready to unleash it, but what you don't realize is that same anger is in my soul, man...
... And that's something that you have NEVER encountered in your entire fucking existence!
You may think that you are walking in, with some sort of advantage, and some idea that you know what to expect, but you're also a complete tool with an ill-fated grasp on reality. You're nowhere near right on what I plan on bringing because you've also never brought out the ADRENALINE in the man who TRULY EMBODIES this division. You tried to do what I did with the Adrenaline Division, but you couldn't even make it HALF as long as I did. Then you parade around on twitter, acting like you resurrected it after me? The dude you lost to was the champion longer than you. So believe me, you didn't do SHIT for it. You haven't EVER come close to doing ANYTHING at the caliber that I have, yet everyone just applauds you like you're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
You have NO IDEA how much that irritates me, too.
Jake lets out a very sarcastic smirk, showing his utter disbelief.
I've gone out and busted my ass in FAR MORE WAYS than you ever have. I've put my fucking neck on the line time after fucking time, all because of one reason, I wanted the respect of others. I wanted to be that guy everyone looked at as the best, and you know, if you took my fucking name off of my resume, and just showed the accomplishments, guess what, I would be that guy. They would see the greatness that I truly personify. Instead, I'm just a whiner, a complainer, a demander, someone who doesn't earn anything, I'm just one of the "bad seeds." Well the germination of that seed into one of the most cataclysmic forces in SCW history begins at Gang Rulz, and it begins with you, David. I've sat back and dealt with this disrespect for too fucking long.
You're my ticket Dave...
You're my golden goose...
You're my moment!
At Gang Rulz, when you step into that ring, you're not taking shit from me this time. You're being the taken. You're going to have all of that fun that you've had lead up to the biggest embarrassment of your career. You're going to have to look at yourself in the mirror and ADMIT that Jake Starr beat David Helms. You're going to have to admit that you were ONCE lucky enough to catch me on the downslope, and realize that now, I'm only going one direction... UP! This time, it's your time to enjoy that free fall. It's my time to reap the rewards.
Face it... While you ARE history, I'm history IN THE MAKING!
