The world witnessed something they hadn't quite expected when Breakdown came to a close. When Greaternity decided to try and attack Shilo Valiant, and try and gain that necessary advantage they seem to feel they need, going into Rise to Greatness, the OSMR came to Shilo's aide. That was unexpected moment number one. Number two was what happened when the OSMR had Shawn Winters to himself... Flip piledriver... Shooting Five Star Frog Splash... OSMR unmasks!
For the first time in almost four months, Jake Starr stood tall in the middle of the SCW squared-circle. He had targeted Shawn Winters with a purpose, and made sure that Winters was 100% clear that he was back, and out for blood. The motives, however, for Jake's targeting of Winters, is still an unknown. Some have speculated that Jake is looking to do what many saw that he did best, make cases for his chance to vie for the SCW World Heavyweight Championship. Some believe he still possess his need for greed, and his feeling to always be considered among the "best." Others speculate that he was looking to make a statement, and knew that the number one contender would be a defining way to do so. Attacking the number one contender, and putting the World Champion on notice as well, would definitely make a statement to the entire SCW roster, saying, "I'm back, and I'm not wasting any time making a statement."
Regardless of his reasoning, the SCW nation took quick notice when the "up and coming" OSMR finally revealed himself to be no "up and comer," but a two-time former SCW World Heavyweight Champion. Many of the SCW superstars have commented on the return, some more excited than others, and the reverberations of Jake's return are definitely still echoing through the locker room. The questions have begun to surface...
Will Jake be competing at the top pay-per view of the year?
Who would his opponent be?
Would he do like he and Josh Hudson did last year, and single-handedly steal the show away from the main event?
What are his motives for returning now?
Who is he out to make his primary target?
Ultimately, these are all questions that cannot be answered immediately. Instead, those questions will take time. Jake, himself, knows that the questions, the whispers and the criticisms have resurfaced in the short moments since his "return." He knows the locker room was buzzing about this newcomer, and is now faced with a mix of shock, excitement, and for some specific individuals, disappointment, and he's ready to prove he's back with a vengeance. He has planned this for some time, and has decided that this time, things will be different than the last. This time, it won't be the rise and fall of Jake Starr. It won't involve him quarreling with his friends when a two-faced outside source decides to involve themselves in their business. This time, it'll involve Jake rising from the ashes like a Phoenix, doing what he does best, and ascending the proverbial SCW ladder, and ultimately ensuring that his legacy in SCW is remembered for greatness, and not for cratering like he feels he did, when 2010 ended, and 2011 began.
Since finding out who his "return" opposition is, Jake has spent much time trying to do the necessary research on Chase Cameron, with the hopes that it gives him more of an edge going into Breakdown. He knows he enters against a relative unknown in SCW, and knows if he were to trip up, after making such a major splash upon returning, would kill any momentum he has built up over this period of anonymity. He knows many will be secretly rooting for his opponent. He knows, for once, he probably is the favored superstar in this match. Nevertheless, he wants to make a statement, and ultimately ensure that his return is as spectacular as his "unveiling." He also knows that once he walks out of that curtain it'll be a feeling that will fill his body with a slew of emotions, and emotions that he'll ultimately have to fully control.
He has assumed his place, firmly behind the desk in his office, prepared to tackle many of these issues for the masses. It's a position that has him feeling almost a sense of nostalgia. His face shows the fact that he is doing something that, at one point, he never thought he would ever do again, and yet, here he is. The surreal nature surrounding this whole moment is quite powerful to Jake, and he hopes to translate that raw emotion into powerful words directed at his opponent, Shawn Winters, the doubters, and anyone else who he feels is a relevant target for his mission for ultimate supremacy amongst the Supreme.
Jake Starr: It's been a long time coming, wouldn't you say? I mean officially, that is. Back at the transition from 2010 to 2011, I was definitely at a point in my career where things weren't going my way. You could really say they were flat out going bad, for that matter. I had climbed back up the ladder, claimed the World Championship, only to drop it to David Helms, and subsequently fail in my goal to recapture it. After that, Tons'o'Fun and I went in to defend our Tag Team Championships against Stacy Kissinger and Gable Winchester, and not only fail at retaining them, I was knocked out of action with a concussion. It was a string of bad luck that had me questioning myself, whether or not I should even continue on, or for that matter if I could even compete at the level that I could look myself in the mirror and respect. I was on the proverbial ropes; I was hurt and I was knocked down, hard; I was full of more doubt than I've been full of in a long time; But I never could bring myself to think that I was done, and ready to hang things up once and for all.
Having said all of that, I didn't know how to even prepare for a comeback though. I sat around curious about if it was worth trying to think up some way to come back and do so in a way I would be happy about. Then, I'll admit, I started hearing some random voices. These voices were mocking me, calling me out, and in the middle of all of that, would just start speaking inane gibberish to me, expecting me to understand what it all meant. None of it did. How was I supposed to have any clue what these random voices mean? The truth is, I was damn near close to thinking that I had finally lost my mind. I thought the concussion had finally done something to really send me off of the deep end, and I was to the point I had just, well, taken one too many shots to the head. It was a scary time for me, and it was especially scary for my wife. She thought it was time to have me involuntarily committed to the psychiatric ward, hoping maybe I'd get the help I needed. But then, the messages changed. They stopped being random, inane, or gibberish. They started getting consistent, and it finally was an answer.
It was 113...
Jake slowly begins to nod, reflecting on the tumultuous tormenting that whole idea of 113 brought him.
It's something that I know many out there are sitting back, and saying how cryptic it sounded, and still sounds. At first, I thought the same thing. I thought it was just something cryptic, but it was still something that became consistent. Everything kept saying "113, 113, 113," and I decided that it was worth listening to this one last time. I knew if I didn't walk away going "A HA," and know exactly what it meant, I was going to agree to face the music, and go seek help. It was in a dream where it all came together for me. Well, I think a dream at least. It was when 113 all became clear on what it meant when I saw a billboard advertising Taking Hold of the Flame.
So that leads me to the question I've been asked on numerous occasions. What is 113? What does it mean? The answer of what 113 means may, and I admit, sound quite boring, or even pointless to anyone but me, but those who may question the truth, can simply invert a stool, sit on it, and spin for all I care! The truth is, 113 was a simple number, a simple number that represented the motivation I needed to realize it was time, and Taking Hold of the Flame was the right time. 113, the number of days from the day I left SCW with a concussion, to the day Taking Hold of the Flame occurred. Like I said, it wasn't some monumental, deep, and uplifting message for everyone, but for me, it told me what needed to happen. I had been sitting around for far too long, asking myself how I should do it, what I should do, why I should do it, and the truth is, my id, my inner self, my subconscious called out to me, slapped me in the face, and said, "YOU'RE GOING TO DO IT AT TAKING HOLD OF THE FLAME, LIKE IT OR NOT!" So I listened. I listened to my inner self call out to me, and it gave birth to a new me... Well, sort of.
Jake shrugs.
And you know, that actually kind of leads me to another question I've faced on several occasions. See, earlier in the year, and to end 2010 for that matter, I stopped being who I was proud to be. I stopped being the man who had ultimately achieved everything I had achieved in my career. In a nutshell, my return unleashed the OSMR! So who is the OSMR? Why did I hide under that moniker? The truth is, I was hiding in plain sight! I told everyone who I was, and nobody listened... I am, and always will be, the OSMR! The...
Only...
Social...
Misfit...
Remaining...
Between each word Jake let out a slight pause, hoping to give it a more dramatic effect of the reveal of his assumed moniker. After revealing the acronym, his voice takes on a much more growly and snide tone, emphasizing the emotion that acknowledging his status as a Social Misfit evokes from within.
I stood along side my brethren of the Social Misfits for a long time. When I tried to make The Brotherhood into a spinoff of them, and ultimately recapture the same glory we held way back when, it failed. It wasn't meant to be. So when I got my little "kick in the pants" from my inner self, guess what, I realized I didn't need to "move on" from being the last man standing from the old order, no, I needed to embrace it. While Brandon and Jude have stepped away from the industry, I still carry the flag proudly, and will continue to do so regardless of if stand along side members of other groups or alone. I will raise my fist, signifying the continued effort of the Social Misfit Revolution, and ultimately show the world that while I may stand alone, the FEELING will carry on, and on, and on...
This whole talk about the "Social Misfit banner" is also what made the heart began to beat again. When I left, I wasn't the Social Misfit anymore, hell I wasn't even Jake Starr, really. I was a shell of a man who had always fought for a purpose. My heart had ceased to beat in the manner that drove me to succeed. When I came back, I wanted to make sure people knew that the shell was no longer just a shell, but instead was riding high with his mojo, his heart, and his soul again. You see, I will continue to fly my Misfit banner high and proud, and if anyone has a problem with it, they, again, can climb atop a large flagpole, insert it into their rectum, and proceed to slide down until they're coughing up rust!
Capiche?
We clear?
Do you understand?
Comprenez-vous?
Jake looks into the camera lens, and raises his eyebrows, and slightly tilts his head, giving yet another method of "are we clear," through the power of non-verbal communication.
After assuming the viewer answered his inquiry in the affirmative, he continues.
Good!
So the cat is out of the bag now, I am the OSMR. I targeted Shawn Winters for a reason. But let me be clear of that reason right here, right now. When I was knocked out with a concussion, he quickly ran around, running his mouth, and hoped to force the world to think I was ducking him. He wanted nothing to do with me while I was healthy, and instead decided to be a chicken-shit, and try to call me out when he knew I couldn't come and face him like he knew I would. That's some pretty childish antics if you ask me. So, since he made it seem like I was ducking him, I decided I would pick a nice and "sweet" opportunity to take my shot at him, and make sure he knew my presence. So I decided Breakdown was that moment. He and Ace decided to jump on Shilo, and try and soften him up for Rise to Greatness. We all know I have ZERO love for Shilo and his former Avatar/Smurf-obsessed girl, so don't even get any thoughts I was looking to help his ass. If at all else, I wanted him on notice as well, he's the World Champion, and Jake Starr ultimately always guns for the top.
After acknowledging his desire to ultimately return to the top, Jake takes a break, and leans forward to address a relevant topic to his desire, that has sprung up since his return.
Now... Having said that, let me clarify some things, which I know there is a certain individual, or on some days individuals, depending on if they all decide to talk in one voice or 14, who will say I'm going to ask to be put into the main event at Rise to Greatness. I won't lie, would I like it, sure, who wouldn't? Who wouldn't turn down a shot to headline the number one pay-per view of the year? Nobody! But no, that has NOTHING to do with what I'm going to ask for. Regardless of what happens with Winters at Rise to Greatness, whether he wins, or whether he loses, I want Shawn Winters, one on one, at Apocalypse. If he's the champion, consider it the ultimate culmination from the first day I stepped into SCW, when I looked, then SCW World Champion, Shawn Winters in the eye and told him I would be coming for his World Championship one day. It'd be the perfect "conclusion" to the chapter started on March 18, 2009. Then again, if he's not the champion, consider it the ending to the chapter he decided to start when he knew he had nothing to worry about. Either way, at Apocalypse, Jake Starr wants Shawn Winters. Consider this my "demand to get my way," or as I see it, the beginning of my "Jake Starr wants to fight Shawn Winters at Apocalypse" campaign!
... And to Infamous, suck on that one, asshats, thinking you know me. HA, you know shit! Now go return to being all pouty and virtually non-existent because I'm back. I prefer y'all that way... Makes things nice and quiet!
Jake gives one of his famous, and often cheesy, grins, paired with a Borat-like thumbs up. He clears his throat, as if to say that was enough of that.
Ok... I think that about takes care of the "administrative" section of this diatribe of mine, so let's get to the good stuff...
For the first time in several months I get to leave a locker room dressed as myself, acting as myself, and doing things my way again. Since returning, I've either had to dress at my hotel, or sneak into the arena, dress in a secluded area, and ensure I carried no identifiable items with me. It was quite a challenge, especially at Taking Hold of the Flame. Imagine trying to hide from, not only a massive horde of fans who make the paparazzi look like amateurs, but your coworkers, friends, and enemies. It wasn't easy, but it was necessary. When I decided to come back, I knew there was only one way to do so successfully, and that was to do it with a BANG! And here I am! Back with a vengeance that only I can bring, and when Breakdown rolls around I get to walk out of that curtain, and take in a feeling and an energy that I have been missing for quite some time. I get to feel the roar of that crowd welcoming me back, and feel that love that only they know how to show, directed right at me... And believe me, it's something I've been yearning to feel once again.
When I walk into Breakdown, I face my first official hurdle since returning... Well second if you count Corey Douglas, but first officially as ME! You see, coming back I plan to elevate my game and my performance to a level that would even dwarf that of what I have already done in SCW. It began at Taking Hold of the Flame, where I merely intended to make my presence felt, continued with Douglas, and will now officially charge forward head on with some guy named Turd Ferguson...
A mysterious hand appears from the side, handing Jake a piece of paper. Jake looks down, and lets out a seemingly troubled sigh.
Ok so I've already made a mistake since coming back, and it didn't involve breaking any rules, sneaking any cameras in anywhere where they wouldn't be, and see things that nobody is supposed to know ever happened, or demanding a title shot, no, instead, I've apparently severely butchered my opponents name. Apparently, his name isn't Turd Ferguson, and I mistook him a character played on Saturday Night Live a couple times by Norm MacDonald. My opponent's name however is...
Jake lifts the paper up, and begins to apparently have issue reading it, and proceeds to adjust his non-existent reading glasses, acting as if he's looking through them, and over the top, trying to decide which is giving him a clear picture on the name of said opponent.
Chase... Umm... Cameron! Yes, Chase Cameron! That is this fellow's name, Chase Cameron. Can anyone tell me who he is, now? Anyone? I am aware that he's apparently someone returning to the ring after a bit of a hiatus, and trying to shake off some ring rust, and apparently he's a bit of a naughty, naughty, boy. After that... I got nothing! But that's ok, I think. Truthfully I believe that I'm walking into a match with a guy, probably in a similar boat to me. He's been away for a while, had a couple instances where he could see how much rust is on the old bones, and is still trying to get his feet under him. After that, our paths go in completely opposite directions. See, I admit I will cut some corners here and there because, as Infamous loves to say, I do what I want to get what I want. So why hide from it? Everyone believes at least half of their shit is gospel anyway, so I might as well just play along for fun, sound good? See, he'll cut every corner, stab everyone in the back, manipulate whoever he has to, and be as corrupt of a human being as he has to be in order to get ahead...
Jake pauses, and looks around a bit confused. In his mind, he has this distinct feeling he is describing someone else, or at least a very similar type of psychological profile.
Wait, did I just accidentally start describing any and every member of Infamous, Greaternity, and the best named faction in history, "Chad's Group?" I swear that fits them all to a "T?"
Oh well...
He shrugs, and chuckles a bit to himself.
This guy is willing to go that extra mile to really try and be devious, cunning, and even stoop to villainy in order to try and win. Quite a scary and ominous person to know you're going to be encountering in your first real match back from a concussion. I mean, think about it, this guy is willing to put my health on the line, simply so he can skirt away with a victory. That's scary! That's manipulative! That's... Well... Pretty much everyone I've ever faced inside the ring!
Chase Cameron, a newcomer, is walking into Breakdown thinking he's got himself quite an opportunity to make a name and a statement for himself. Face it, nobody knows who he is, nobody acknowledges his existence in the locker room, and nobody even has a clue what his name is. He can change that rather quickly if you ask me, and I know he's got quite a lot of spunk knowing that himself. That's all fine and well, but he's also going to be thinking more about his opportunity to make himself a somebody, than the fact he's standing in the ring with a two-time World Champion, who's on the prowl to ultimately earn himself a third, and who's here to shut the mouths of all of those people who have been talking shit behind his back. I'm not coming into this match with one of those cocky attitudes where I think I'm going to win simply because I'm me. No, I'm walking into this match with one of those cocky attitudes knowing I'm going to win because I'm me. There's no thinking about it.
Chase, I hope, realizes that he could, very well, be something great in SCW one day. He could be just like me. He could walk in, and have everyone think he's a veritable nobody, start stringing wins together, and evolve into an SCW legend. It's down right possible. But it isn't starting at Breakdown. I sure as shit am not going to be his catapult into the limelight. What is going to happen is Jake Starr is going to walk into Breakdown, beat Chase down, make another statement, and then sit and wait. I'm going to be simply awaiting the arrival of Greaternity, and their wannabe frat-lifestyle, which by the way is a complete joke, you should see them in real life talking stocks... I'm just saying! But once I dispose of Chase, I fully expect them to try and get a little payback for my little "peek-a-boo" on them. It's their M. O. Why wouldn't I expect it? It's one of those things a 12 year old would think up, while watching wrestling on TV, and swearing he knew how to book better than the adults. Seriously, it is.
Jake leans forward once again, this time allowing the look on his face to convey a much more stern, and serious, message, one that would not be taken lightly by anyone who has more than three brains cells.
I came back for a reason. I came back to put my first run in SCW behind me, and make it look amateur. I came back to show the world that Jake Starr has returned, and not in a simple verbal manner, but in a very physical reality. I came back to climb back up the ladder, claim the World Championship, and stuff a sock into the mouths of everyone who has ever decided to TRY and bad mouth me. Believe me when I say I am on a mission to quiet those who have become the BITCHES of Twitter, doing nothing but whining, crying, pissing, and moaning all for one reason... They're not me, and they're jealous. Well folks, you'll never be me, you'll never have the ability to call your own shots, and people actually stop and listen. You'll always be the ones who have people talking nice to your face, and ridiculing your every move behind your back. Oh believe me children, I know there are two-faces who come my way, too. But if you all think you're not facing the same issues, you're the ones who are simply retarded... INFAMOUSLY retarded...
With those final words, Jake stands up, and walks away knowing he has delivered the message he ultimately wished to deliver. He now can sit back and await the rebuttal from his opponent, and hopefully garner more insight as to what he'll be up against at Breakdown. He also knows that moving forward there will be more questions coming his way...
What's his relationship with Thorn and Helms?
Are they reuniting?
Is Jake's "Only Social Misfit Remaining" premise a sign he's fighting alone?
How is his family taking all of this?
Ultimately these are questions he expected to receive, and knows he'll ultimately have to address at some point. For now, however, it's full speed ahead to Breakdown, and the much anticipated return of the OFFICIAL Social Misfit of professional wrestling, and two-time World Champion, Jake Starr...
